PTE Core Test Structure

The PTE Core test has three main parts, designed to assess all four language skills.

1. Speaking & Writing (54-67 minutes)

This part tests your ability to communicate in English verbally and in writing.

  • Personal Introduction: A short, unscored introduction that will be shared with institutions receiving your score.

  • Read Aloud: You’ll read a text displayed on the screen.

  • Repeat Sentence: You’ll listen to a sentence and repeat it exactly.

2. Reading (29-30 minutes)

This section tests your reading comprehension and ability to interpret academic texts.

  • Re-order Paragraphs: Re-arrange sentences to form a coherent text.

3. Listening (30-43 minutes)

  • Multiple-choice (Multiple Answers): Choose more than one correct answer from options based on the audio.
